The Parks and Gardens Department has started replacing the exotic and invasive species for native plants. This is a part of a programme promoted by the Andalusian Government, who has contributed 40.000 native plants. The Councillor of Parks and Gardens, Joaquin Villazón, informed that the plantation has already begun, with vegetable species like, juniperos, lentiscos, and siemprevivas.
The technicians from Parks and Gardens have already elaborated a report about the gardens in Benalmadena (called oasis). The aim of this report was to observe which exotic and invasive species should be eradicated.
This programme has been implemented in eight oases, along the cost of Benalmadena with a total surface of 12.000 square meters. "Last February we removed the exotic species, and now we are planting native ones, in the Malapesquera area," said the councillor.
The Regional Government of Andalusia contributed 4.000 indigenous species to replace the removed ones. We want to finish the first phase of plantation by mid-May, in order that the oases look as good as possible by the beginning of the summer.
Now the native plants contributed by the Andalusian Government are in plant nurseries, where they are looked after and will be planted later on.
