The Town Hall of Benalmadena strengthens the contact with the British community through the Council of Foreign Residents. The Major of Benalmadena, Javier Carnero, and the Councillor of Foreign Residents, Maria del Carmen Romero, had a meeting with the representatives of seven British communities in order to know their needs and suggestions.
“The aim of this meeting is to strengthen the cooperation between the Town Hall of Benalmadena and the British community, the second biggest one after Spanish in the municipality,” said the Major. “ We appreciate the interest and useful suggestions from the British community, and their implication in the municipal life,” added María del Carmen Romero. In the meeting participated the following British associations: Arroyo Social and Welfare Club, Eagles Club, Friendly Club, Royal British Legion, Royal Air force Association, Marry-go-round Club and British Society. These associations have about 2.000 members. During the meeting, the Major and the Councillor detailed to the assistants the plans and projects raised from the Council of Foreign Residents which is created in order to know the needs and suggestions of foreign community and to offer all the advise and help needed. The foreign participants offered their help to any municipal department in order to promote the integration of foreign residents in local community. They suggested creating of a small consultative group, which would support and help the Council of Foreign Residents in his labour in favour of integration. They suggested also publishing a monthly newsletter in English. "We have gathered these suggestions to study it, we agree completely with the British community in the need to promote the integration of the foreigners in the local community by means of all kinds of actions and common lines of cooperation," said the Mayor.
