The second Meeting of Solidarity with the city of Havana has been celebrated in Benalmadena. The consequences of the Hurricane “Ike” and the release from prison of “the five” were the centre of debates.
Benalmadena has been the place chosen for the celebration of the II Meeting of Solidarity with the city of Havana. The I Meeting took place in Casaraburuñuelos in the province of Madrid. These meetings take place to prepare the annual meeting of the cities of the world in solidarity with the city of Havana that is celebrated in the capital of this Caribbean country in the middle of November. There can be no doubt that this year meeting is going to be marked by the situation of the island after the Hurricane “Ike.” The documents that have centred the debates indicate nine lines of cooperation with the city of Havana. Rehabilitation of the sewage system, strengthening of the system of collection, treatment and final disposal of solid waste, rehabilitation of public system of illumination and of the facilities for disabled, repairing and endowment of means for children’s centres, improvement of the urban transport, rehabilitation of the real-estate fund and the help in emergency cases. To this town of Costa del Sol, came an important Cuban delegation leaded by Jorge Luis de la Rosa, vice-president of the Popular Power of the City of Havana. Among another people were Umberto Macias, attaché of the Cuban embassy in Spain, Osmani Relejo, person in charge of international relations of the Popular Power and Ronaldo Rodriguez, representative of the city of Havana in Spain. The Meeting took place in the Sport Port of Benalmadena “ Puerto Marina”. The event attended Javier Carnero, the Major of Benalmadena, Elena Galan the Delegate of Solidarity and Elena Benitez, the Deputy Major of Arroyo de la Miel. All of them highlighted the historical ties of solidarity between Spain and Cuba, especially with Havana. This international symposium of solidarity with the city of Havana that will be celebrated in the Cuban capital has an essential content of cooperation. This year is going to have also a political content because of the unjust imprisonment of five Cubans in North American prisons ten years ago.
