With more than 40 stands and all kinds of activities of cultural animation, this week is celebrated in Benalmádena Village an Arabic souk. We will use the figure of the Arabic botanist from Benalmadena Ibn Al Baytar as conductive thread of the event, and will have an own stand in which will explain his history.
The councillor of Culture, Elena Benítez, has presented this morning an activity of ludic - cultural character that will take place in Benalmádena Pueblo next weekend: the I Arabic Souk Ben-al-madena. " It is a question of the recreation of a former Moslem souk for Benalmádena Pueblo's streets, using as conductive thread one of the most important figures of our history: the botanist Ibn Al Baytar, whose works have been used as base to the botany and current pharmacology ", detailed the councillor.
The event will take place from 28 to 31 August in Benalmádena Pueblo, in schedule from 19.00 to 1.00 and with totally free entry. The souk will have a centre of activity in the Royal street (calle real), though the stands will also be present in the squares of Andalusia and Spain, besides the street Guzmán's Santo Domingo and Gardens of the Wall.
40 stands form the commercial offer of the souk, in which you will be able to find artisan products (jewellery, bags, glass, leather ...), clothes and Moroccan decoration, as well as confectionary and two teterías.
"We did not want that the event had only a commercial character, but also cultural, taking advantage of the appointment to claim the figure of the botanist Al Baytar ", emphasised Domingo Sanchez, manager of Merlin Producciones, the company responsible for the organization of the activity. In the Gardens of the Wall, we will enable a stand in which you will learn the history and legacy of the botanist, with an actor who will interpret Al Baytar. " It will be a pleasant form specially thought for the smallest, to bring over the valuable legacy of the botanist from Benalmadena to all the public", emphasized the councillor.
The event will count with an elegant setting that will achieve that the visitors travel in time to the past up to living in person the sensations of being immersed in a dynamic Arabic souk. " We have organized the whole series of cultural parallel activities, like: storytelling, workshops of ceramics and henna, musical performances, belly dancing and a fakir ", enumerated the councillor.
