The local police make a criminological study of Benalmádena in the statistics for 2007. According to the mayor," the study allows us to detect which are the most vulnerable zones and hours for the commission of crimes, in this way to facilitate our labour of realizing preventive strategies." The mayor of Benalmádena, Javier Carnero, and the coordinator of Civil Security of the local police, Antonio Palomo, has presented the statistics of civil safety of 2007 elaborated by the local police. " This year we want to emphasize that, for the first time, a criminological study has been elaborated. Its utility does not limit to supply information, but it offers us a frame to be able to work in much more concrete form at the areas of the municipality and hours in which we have observed more deficiency for civil safety," the mayor declared. "In Benalmádena such a precise study on civil safety has never been elaborated,” he added. As example of the actions for civil safety that we have developed during the last years, Carnero emphasized the efforts of the local police to eradicate the open air drinking sessions from Solymar and Puerto Marina. " From the beginning of the year more than 400 accusations have been presented in this matter," he announced As for municipal ordinances, we deal with a whole of 500 sanctions for Environment, other 212 in Town Planning, 1.219 in Openings (many for break of closing hours), 454 in Occupation of Thoroughfare and 670 in Civil Living Together. " Another significant information of the statistics of this year is the impressive increase in the number of calls to 092, which indicates that more neighbours appeal first the local police for the solution of problems," the mayor valued. In this respect, 22.138 calls were realized to 092 during last year. For his part, Antonio Palomo insisted on the validity and importance of the criminological profile as tool of prevention. " From now, we want that the statistical study of every year serve to realize comparative studies," he announced. Later, Palomo emphasized some numbers and important statistics of 2007. As for Traffic, 196 police statements, with a whole of 19 arrested and 110 not arrested. The global number of crimes and offences during 2007 was 473, with 528 arrested. The places with more incidents were, Benalmádena Costa with the exclusion of Solymar and Puerto Marina, that would occupy the second position as troubled zone during the weekends. The months of August (60) and in July (40) were those of major incident of crimes and offences. As for the nationality of the offenders, there head the list the Spanish (267 detentions), followed by European citizens (157) and Moroccan (102). The age group between 18 and 30 years is the one that includes the major number of arrested (283), followed by the age group between 30 and 45 years (143). The most frequent types of crime were the thefts in housings (64), followed by the thefts of vehicles (63), injure (63) and violence (48). The consumption of narcotics supposed a whole of 172 infractions, corresponding the majority a hashish (134). In the controls of alcohol level of the blood put in the entry and exit of Solymar and Puerto Marina, also knifes were found (60). " With these profiles and statistics in hand, we can determine accurately the profile of a delinquent, besides the hours and the most vulnerable places for the commission of crimes and offences, which will help to a good policy of prevention for civil safety," concluded Palomo. " The statistics reflects that there are zones in Benalmadena in which, there is a high number of commission of crimes and offences, registered by agents. This means that a good number of policemen remain during the weekends in this zone. This fact together with the high number of calls registered in 092 during 2007, is the cause, that we want to increase the staff of the local police," the mayor valued. In this way, during the present fiscal year, the staff of the local police will increase in 20 per cent, which will be between 18 and 24 more agents. " This would allow us to offer a better service to the citizen. In addition, it would be an important increase: only in our first year of management we would increase the staff so much as the previous Corporation in eight years," specified Carnero.
