The Councillor of Cleaning has started a special device of cleaning of all the coast of our municipality facing the summer. The boats are managed by the Union of Municipalities (Mancomunidad de Municipios) and co-financed by the Government of Andalusia and the Town Hall.
The councillor of Cleaning and Beaches Juan Jose Jiménez Gambero has announced that three boats (two of beach and one of coast) have started to clean the coast of Benalmadena. “The boats will work till the end of the summer,” he announced. Although the Union of the Municipalities is responsible of the management of these boats, it shares the financing of this project with the Town Hall (40%) and the Andalusia Government (60%). The total budget of the service for the western part of Costa del Sol (Torremolinos, Benalmadena, Fuengirola, Mijas, Estepona, Casares) ascends to 824.884,97 euros. The two beach boats will cover 200 meters distance between the buoys and the shore, while the cost one will work from the buoys towards the interior of the sea. The boats can count with a support of containers in which the fishing boats will be able to deposit wastes. Main objective of these boats is to prevent contamination of the bath areas, the collection of floating solids and other waste products. They have 10 metres of length, system of aspiration and automatic collection of floating solids, collection and recovery of hydrocarbon spots, dispersion of spots in the water with oxygenation system and the capacity for cleaning of wharves and jetties with a water cannon. In addition they count on ecological motorization. On the other hand, the beach boats have like a priority the collection of floating solids. They will be equipped with a mobile phone, GPS and system of alert for swimmers. The boats will work from 10:00 to 18:00 hours.
